Domenico Ponti and Elena Volnova have the solution: luxury cosmetics for the modern pup.
In June, the entrepreneurial pair, inspired by the lack of luxury goods for canines, founded Dog Fashion Spa, a Manhattan-based line of upscale cosmetic products for tail-waggers and their choosy owners.

“If you meet dog parents, most of them can’t stop talking about their dogs,” Ponti explained. “We recognized that many dog owners wanted a complex fragrance — not just something like vanilla or strawberry.”
So the two combined efforts, doing extensive research to develop scents that would be pleasing to both the pup who loves rolling around in the mud and the Chanel No. 5-wearing owner.
Now, Dog Fashion Spa offers a variety of accessories usually reserved for human primping, everything from eye pads to a specially designed nail file.
“We’re not for everyone,” Volnova admitted. “Our average consumer is a 35 to 65-
year-old woman, and we find that we appeal to a set who really take care of themselves.”
Next up? Volnova and Ponti are hoping to create a line of dog-friendly nail polish. But don’t look for a Cat Fashion Spa line anytime soon.
“I love cats, I am also a cat person,” Volnova said. But she suspects felines would be less receptive to the idea of an aroma. Still, “Never say never,” Volnova laughed.
